Lifestyle Photography Class

Lifestyle Photography Workshop Fraser Valley

What is Lifestyle Photography? I was asked this question several times, especially over the last few weeks as we were preparing to have our first part of our Lifestyle Photography Workshop in Abbotsford.

So let’s face it. What does Lifestyle Photography mean? How it is different from other styles? And what should you know to create the effects that you are after?

Here is a quote from Wikipedia regarding Lifestyle photography:

“Lifestyle photography is a style of photography which aims to portray real-life situations in a controlled setting. Lighting is bright, airy and natural-looking. There are many commercial applications including magazine editorial and advertising usage.”

This is a very simple, yet complete description of Lifestyle Photography. So let me just explain what techniques you need to use. Before getting to this point I just want to mention that the Lifestyle Photography class for May 27th is almost full and only a few spots are available. So book your ticket fast!

1- The very first rule is “Natural Looking”. It means that your set-ups should look Natural. Your subject(s) should look comfortable and relaxed, the lighting must be nice and bright to the same level that human eyes see the scene, and there shouldn’t be any harsh highlights or shadows. So, understanding the technical features in your camera is the key for this rule. Ted will help you to explore the hidden functions of your camera and guide you through the technical camera settings.

2- Rule number 2 is to capture Real-Life Situations. This means learning how to select the right location, timing your shot,  learning what elements to avoid, what elements to add, how to use natural elements from the scene to enhance the image, etc. Tamara will guide you through these important steps.

3- Relaxed and Real! Not everybody is comfortable in front of the camera (including myself!). Many people don’t know where to look or how to sit, or what to do with themselves when being photographed. How can you break the ice and make your subjects more relaxed? As a great and successful Pro photographer, Anita will give you some priceless tips to help break the ice and capture their pictures with a little taste of their personalities.

Photoshop class date adjustment

We want to make Photography and editing fun and easy for you. Because of a very exciting workshop we have coming up on May 27th, we have decided to to adjust the date of our Intro to Layers Editing class to June 10, so that it follows this new workshop. That way, our workshops follow each other in the same way that your typical photography workflow does. We hope you can join us in June for some editing fun.

Fantasy Art – A new direction

So I have been long silent while working on both my website and also a new direction for my business. I will be easing slowly back into the doula world as I am able, and focusing mostly on baby and maternity photos in order to compliment that side of things. But what I am most excited about at the moment, is my new Fantasy Art service. I will be SLOWLY adding more and more samples as I find the inspiration and the time to do them. I will also be adding a price list soon for this service. Basically, it will likely include a photo session with me to get the lighting right, and then choosing one photo that will work with one of  my backgrounds. I could possibly use a photo provided by you as taken by someone else, but would be an extra charge for the additional work it involves, as well as a copyright release for professional images. Here is an example of an image that I shot and then repainted as a fantasy image. So much fun!

The Magical Power of Photoshop Layers

We are excited to launch the first workshop in our All About Layers track on May 6, 2012. Check out our Intro to Layers page for more details. Layers are the most powerful feature in Adobe Photoshop. They allow you to isolate and fully control each step of your editing process. Tamara and Ted have designed this course for the absolute beginner to the intermediate student.

Did you know that Photoshop is not a non-destructive software? What does that mean to you? That means, if you do not have the right workflow, you can make irreversible changes to your original image. Come to this workshop to learn how to protect your original file.

Does your photography seem to be coming along great, but editing is still a bit of a challenge? Come and learn to take what your camera gives you, and make it pop with a few simple adjustments. We can give you some key steps to improve your workflow and overall image quality and get you off to a great start in the editing world.

Do you feel that working with Photoshop is overwhelming and complicated? Photoshop can be an easy program to understand, if you know where to start. Let us introduce you to the simplicity of your editing program and unlock the mystery of layers for you. A basic understanding of how layers work will serve as a stepping stone to all of your future editing.

Have you tried online tutorials and books to no avail? Sometimes understanding all the jargon in a book is a little overwhelming, especially when it doesn’t seem to apply to the specific image you are working on. This 4 hour workshop will target the basics and give you time to address your specific questions with two live instructors. Give us a chance to open your eyes to the wealth of editing tools at your fingertips. Bring your laptop with Photoshop installed, and get ready to have some editing fun!

Class sizes are kept small for this popular class. Buy your ticket now.
